Today we are going to talk about dermal fillers; What they do, how they work, and the advantages and disadvantages of different type of fillers, the cost and the expected results.
Dermal fillers are substances that are injected in different areas including, the face, to restore volume and fullness in the face and by doing so minimizes the lines that are naturally formed as we get older. There are multiple factors that cause the facial lines, most common is the decreased thickness of the skin and loss of volume, fat or the changing of facial skeleton. As we get older, gravity has an increase effect on the facial skin, which has a tendency for it to pull downward.
So, what can facial dermal fillers do? They fill-up the volume lost over time, they enhance the shallow contours of the face, and soften the facial creases fine lines and overall improve the cosmetic appearance of the face.
The question is what is the best dermal filler for the goals you want to obtain! There are some considerations that need to be taken because sometimes the facial fillers may not be what you need. If the laxity of the facial skin is too much you may need either face lift, brow lift or upper/lower eyelid surgery.
Let us talk a little about cost. This can vary significantly from one clinic to another. We need to take into account that if the fillers are being injected by a physician, cost is going to be slightly more than if it is being done by an esthetician or a nurse. When we choose somebody for the dermal filler injection, it is very important that you check his /her credentials and make sure that he has experience with the treatment using these different types of fillers. The cost varies in accordance with the different type of fillers. Some of them are more expensive than others, but overall normally the calcium hydroxy appetite fillers like, Radiesse, costs around $675.00 to $700.00 a vial or a syringe. This is followed by hyaluronic acid, Juvederm, Restylane or Belotero, which is about $710.00 to $725.00 per syringe and the microspheres. Bellafill. is about $875.00 to $900.00 per syringe. This is followed by the polylactic acid, Sculptra, which is about $915.00 to $925.00 and the fat recycling is the most expensive and this has variety of costs but normally depending on the amount injected per vial should be around $1000.00 to $2000.00 depending on the site and location.
Some concerns are the duration of the fillers. Some only last 8 months while others like Fat Recycling last forever. There is going to be less reaction to the natural fat because its your own tissue that we harvest from one area and inject into another. There still is the possibility of embolism, which can occur with any of these injectables.
The most important thing that should be established between you (the patient) and the dermal filler (physician, nurse or esthetician) should be that you should clearly define your goals which you want to achieve with the treatment. During the same interview, the surgeon or the nurse will evaluate your health and discuss the multiple options that you may have to attain or achieve your goals. There will be multiple discussions on the risks and possible complications of each of the items that will be used, and you need to discern whether you want to have this done under local anesthesia or sedation, which is used in some cases.
I hope this has helped you understand the different considerations to be taken while you seek improvement of your facial appearance.

"Since I'm only on day the day of surgery, I can't comment on the results or aftercare. I can say that the actual surgical expierence I was completely at ease. Mainly because I whole heartly trusted my doctor and his staff. Nurses were so pleasant and his assistant Silvia is out of the world. I was so comfortable and felt very well taken care off. Such a great team!"
